Harnessing sunshine for planetary health starts with a pulse

Connecting Community and Food
We're thinking locally! We've begun connecting three new varieties of British URBEANS with local people who are as excited as we are about cooking healthy, tasty food from ingredients grown close to home. URBEANS are varieties of common dry bean bred to be grown in British sunshine.
Launching on World Pulse Day 2022. . .
URBEAN EATING will be our portal for telling stories from community events and projects that are using URBEANS in closing-the-loop between food preparers and food producers. These are early steps towards changing our food culture and our food environment from the ground up.
Local cooks in schools, community cafes and households... we want to tell stories from the people who will be key URBEAN partners in making the planetary diet come to life!

Food Festival Unlocked Sept 2021
Chefs attending the Universal Cookery Food Festival on Mudwalls farm (Warwickshire) were introduced to Capulet, Godiva and Olivia urbeans in the hosts market stall.
Local chefs shared recipes featuring Godiva urbeans in a food tasting event organised by 'Tales from Coventry Tables' to celebrate in Coventry's year as UK City of Culture. Guests at home booked for the online event with many choosing to collect a food Taster Box beforehand to eat-a-long with the online show. The box contained four taster pots of recipes cooked by the chefs featuring beans grown at the University of Warwick research farm. Recipes included an ‘Almost Naked’ bean dish; a Ugandan/Gujarati fusion curry; Libyan beans with couscous; and a sweet bean bread with bean butter.
